SDG 3

GOAL: ENSURE HEALTHY LIVES AND PROMOTE WELL-BEING FOR ALL AT ALL AGES.

“Over the last 15 years, the number of childhood deaths has been cut in half. This proves that it is possible to win the fight against almost every disease. Still, we are spending an astonishing amount of money and resources on treating illnesses that are surprisingly easy to prevent. The new goal for worldwide Good Health promotes healthy lifestyles, preventive measures and modern, efficient healthcare for everyone.”

Enactus Project Inspiration

Purifiq, Enactus Lancaster

The number one reason children under the age of 10 attend A&E is for poor oral hygiene - a completely preventable disease. Purifiq is a project developing solutions to improve oral hygiene in young children whilst simultaneously combating plastic waste.

“Purifiq believes in addressing the problem at its roots and focusing on prevention, through education.”

Want to know what makes Purifiq an EXCELLENT Enactus Project? Read on below!

    • Tooth decay is the most common reason for hospital admission in children aged six to 10.

    • Dentists are warning lack of access to NHS dentists were increasing the numbers of youngsters turning up in A&E needing emergency extractions.

    • Decay and deprivation are going hand in hand, and this inequality is set to widen.

    • Purifiq wants to tackle the most common and preventable oral diseases affecting children and young people in England, such as tooth decay, by addressing the problem at its roots and focusing on prevention, through education.

    • This project aims to help children aged 2-6 years old (nursery/reception) and their families within Lancashire, who may not have proper access or education to oral healthcare.

    • Purifiq aids children whose families are financially unable to access proper oral healthcare, by giving them toothpaste, toothbrushes, and educational resources.

    • They hope to become a platform that helps families register with the NHS in order to ensure they are aware and can attend free yearly oral health check-ups.

    • Purifiq has provided nearly 30 young children with oral healthcare resources and reports that following one of their workshop sessions held at local preschools, twice as many children expressed that they feel more important to brush their teeth compared to before the session.
