Workplace Health & Safety Policy


This policy outlines Enactus UK’s commitment to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all employees, contractors, visitors, and anyone else who may be affected by our operations. We believe that all accidents, injuries, and work-related illnesses are preventable.

1. Statement of Intent

Enactus UK is committed to:

  • Protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all our employees, contractors, visitors, and others who may be affected by our work activities.

  • Complying with all applicable health and safety legislation, regulations, and approved codes of practice.

  • Providing a safe working environment that is free from hazards and risks to health.

  • Continually improving our health and safety performance.

  • Consulting with employees on matters affecting their health and safety.

2. Responsibilities

2.1 Management Responsibilities

Enactus UK’s management is ultimately responsible for health and safety. This includes:

  • Providing adequate resources to implement this policy effectively.

  • Ensuring that health and safety risks are identified, assessed, and controlled.

  • Providing clear lines of communication for health and safety matters.

  • Ensuring that all employees receive appropriate training and information.

  • Reviewing and updating this policy regularly.

  • Setting a positive example regarding health and safety practices.

2.2 Employee Responsibilities

All employees have a responsibility to:

  • Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

  • Co-operate with management on all health and safety matters.

  • Report any hazards, accidents, or near misses immediately.

  • Use equipment and machinery correctly and in accordance with training and instructions.

  • Comply with all health and safety rules and procedures.

  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) provided, as instructed, when necessary.

  • When working at a sponsor, university or commercial venue you must seek out and follow all local event health and safety instructions provided.

  • If your responsibilities require you to support the set-up of an event you must use all health and safety equipment recommended as recommended.

  • If you need to unload, load, assemble and carry items that are too heavy or difficult for you, you must seek assistance from another member of staff and not try to carry or lift by yourselves.

  • It is your responsibility to prepare for such activity by stretching and wear appropriate attire and footwear.

  • Your role does not require you to carry out electrical or mechanical repairs or maintenance of equipment. If needed, refer the issue to the Executive Director/CEO. Do not attempt this yourself.

  • If your fitness to work is in doubt in a way that it might risk your own safety you must declare this to your manager before putting yourself at risk.

  • It is your responsibility to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the work area.

  • If in doubt - ask!

3. Risk Management

Enactus UK will implement a systematic approach to risk management, which includes:

  • Hazard Identification: Regularly identifying potential sources of harm in the workplace.

  • Risk Assessment: Evaluating the likelihood and severity of harm from identified hazards.

  • Risk Control: Implementing measures to eliminate or reduce risks to an acceptable level, following the hierarchy of controls (elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, PPE).

  • Monitoring and Review: Regularly reviewing the effectiveness of control measures and updating risk assessments as necessary.

4. Training and Information

Enactus UK will ensure that all employees receive:

  • Induction training on general workplace health and safety procedures.

  • Specific training relevant to their job roles and any associated hazards where ever necessary.

  • Information on emergency procedures, including fire safety and first aid.

  • Updates on any changes to health and safety policies or procedures.

  • Information on the location of the Enactus UK First Aid box in the office.

5. Accident Reporting and Investigation

All accidents, incidents, and near misses, no matter how minor, must be reported immediately to Amy Brereton, Executive Director.

Enactus UK will:

  • Investigate all reported incidents to determine their root causes.

  • Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Maintain accurate records of all incidents.

  • Comply with all statutory reporting requirements.

6. Emergency Procedures

Clear emergency procedures will be established and communicated to all employees, including:

  • Fire evacuation procedures and assembly points.

  • First aid arrangements and trained first aiders.

  • If you are in an external venue, and they have provided a first aider, refer all in need of support to the designated first aid staff in the first instance.

7. Welfare Facilities

Enactus UK will provide adequate welfare facilities, including:

  • Access to clean drinking water.

  • Washing facilities.

  • Toilets.

  • Rest areas.

  • Facilities for eating meals.

8. Review of Policy

This policy will be reviewed at least annually, or sooner if there are significant changes in legislation, work practices, or after a major incident. Any amendments will be communicated to all employees.
