SDG 12

GOAL: ENSURE SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION PATTERNS.

“Our planet has provided us with an abundance of natural resources. But we have not utilized them responsibly and currently consume far beyond what our planet can provide. We must learn how to use and produce in sustainable ways that will reverse the harm that we have inflicted on the planet.”

Enactus Project Inspiration

BRAD, Enactus Surrey

A community fridge is a space that brings people together to share food, meet up, learn new skills and prevent fresh food from going to waste. They’re open to all and anyone can share or take food, including surplus from supermarkets, local food businesses, producers, households and gardens.

BRAD is just that and targets students affected by the Cost of Living Crisis and those facing financial stress at university supporting them with access to good food at an economical price.

REPURPOSE, AVOID, DONATE.

Want to know what makes BRAD an EXCELLENT Enactus Project? Read on below!

    • 60% of students have reported financial insecurity and around 30% are considering leaving higher education due to the recent Cost of Living Crisis. BRAD was also aware that over 9 million tonnes of food are wasted in the UK alone.

    • BRAD’s mission is to prevent food from going to waste and instead divert it to students facing financial hardships. BRAD: The Fridge will allow students to repurpose food, avoid waste, and donate when not needed, helping us fight the cost of living crisis and the food waste problem simultaneously.

    • BRAD has already impacted nearly 90 students, benefiting from the new fridge and food exchange programme and repurposed over 180 items.
