Before Beginning...
The below exercise is useful in getting your team to think about current problems with sustainability in mind. Please note that the below exercise has a social focus, however it is sitll useful to utilise this even if your project has an enviornmental need.
Step 1: Pick 3 target SDGs & Industry
Having an SDG focus will support you in identifying a problem.
Bentley’s target SDGs
Use our Project Space to learn more about the SDGs, and their subgoals to inspire action!
*Please only use the Project Space for the SDGs - you do NOT need to register your project with us.
To make sure that your project aligns with Bentley’s current vision “Improve infrastructure for a better quality of life”, make sure to pick from the following industries below.
CITIES, CAMPUSES & AIRPORTS
ELECTRIC UTILITIES
ENERGY PRODUCTION
MINING
RAIL & TRANSIT
ROADS & BRIDGES
WATER UTILITIES
Step 2: Research!
Spend 10 minutes with your team researching into your problem.
EXAMPLE: Last year’s winners wanted to reduce littering. In their research, they found…
I am...
(A narrow description of the beneficiary - not you! that highlights their motivation, attributes, and characteristics)
I am trying to...
(desired outcome)
But...
(Problem or barrier)
Because...
(Root cause)
Which makes me feel...
(emotion)
EXAMPLE (This is based on last year’s Runner Up project which focused on fuel poverty):
I AM a parent living in a deprived area in the UK, my house is old and I am struggling to heat my home. I AM TRYING TO heat my home and afford to pay energy & gas bills. BUT due to my home not being well insulated, I can’t keep my home warm even with heaters turned on BECAUSE I don’t know what needs repairing and I also cannot afford these repairs, WHICH MAKES ME FEEL like I can’t provide a warm and safe environment for my family.
